Andries Dirk Copier was a renowned Dutch sculptor and carver in the late 20th century. He was born in Moriaanshoofd, Netherlands in 1926, and attended the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He became known for his innovative approach to sculpture, using a combination of traditional materials and modern technology to create sculptures that depicted contemporary situations. He created large and small scale works, both in bronze and in stone, and many of these works are now iconic pieces of Dutch art. A major work of his is the statue of Alexander of Macedon, which is on display at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. Another significant work is the sculpture of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh, located in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Copier also produced abstract sculptures, and his works were exhibited throughout Europe as well as in the United States. He was awarded several awards for his work, including the Pieter de Gijsel Prize for Sculpture in 1960 and the Royal Dutch Academy Award in 1966.
