Adrien Tournachon

Adrien Tournachon was a renowned French Impressionist Artist and photographer. Born in 1825 in Paris, Adrien was the younger brother of Gustave Tournachon, who was a pioneering photographer. Adrien began his artistic pursuits in the 1840s and was largely influenced by the Barbizon School of landscape painting, which focused on the realistic interpretation of nature. He was also strongly influenced by the work of Claude Lorrain and Gaspard Poussin. In 1855, Adrien participated in the first exhibition of the Society of French Watercolourists, and in 1859, he won the first prize at the Universal Exhibition for his still life painting titled 'Roses'. His other notable works include 'The Baker's Shop', 'The Street', 'The Windmill in Montmartre', 'The Park at Sceaux', and 'The Church of St Chrysogone'. Among his key achievements was the invention of the photographic technique called the Stereoscope, which allowed the creation of three-dimensional images.
