Candy 3D Printer

Candy 3D Printer is an innovative fusion of traditional Chinese folk art and modern technology, specifically designed to reimagine the ancient craft of Sugar Figure Blowing through contemporary digital fabrication methods. This groundbreaking device, which earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design category, represents a significant advancement in both cultural preservation and educational entertainment. The printer operates through a sophisticated mobile application interface, utilizing specialized food-grade materials and mechanical systems to create three-dimensional candy structures with precise detail and artistic flair. Measuring 202.4 x 294.0 x 168.2mm, with a substantial print volume of 100.5 x 100.5 x 120.0mm, this device incorporates three distinct material chambers for various candy flavors and colors. The system employs a thermal processing mechanism that carefully heats and melts granulated candy before extruding it through a specialized nozzle, similar to traditional hot-melt technology but adapted for confectionery purposes. The printer's design aesthetic features a child-friendly, rounded form factor with a cartoonish appeal, complemented by a transparent acrylic window for observing the printing process. Developed between April 2019 and February 2020 by designers Fengmin Liu and Yanqing Lan, along with their team, this innovative device successfully addresses the challenge of preserving traditional Chinese sugar art while making it accessible to contemporary audiences through digital technology. The printer's significance lies not only in its technical capabilities but also in its cultural impact, serving as a bridge between historical artisanal practices and modern digital fabrication methods, while simultaneously providing an engaging educational tool that introduces children to both traditional arts and modern technology.
