JIS Kuala Lumpur Social Lounge and Bar is an innovative interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of distinct cultural and temporal aesthetics, situated in the vibrant heart of Malaysia's capital city. This 11,000-square-foot establishment, completed in 2019, features three meticulously crafted sections that transport visitors through different design epochs and cultural spaces. The primary space showcases a 1920s Great Gatsby-inspired lounge characterized by opulent gold trim, geometric patterns, and dynamic mood lighting, complemented by carefully matched wood panel flooring. The second area presents a modern Japanese-inspired Sakura lounge, distinguished by Arabescato marble pillars, feminine design elements, and pink mood lighting that creates an atmosphere reminiscent of spring. The third space offers an intimate parlour with Moroccan tearoom influences, completing the establishment's unique spatial narrative. The design philosophy centers on the concept of bridging time and space, incorporating Art Deco elements with bold geometric patterns and lavish metallic finishes, while simultaneously embracing Zen philosophy in its Japanese-inspired spaces. The project, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully addresses the challenge of cultural adaptation by creating an environment that honors Japanese social concepts while appealing to Malaysian sensibilities. The thoughtful spatial planning emphasizes communal interaction through carefully measured seating arrangements, while color-changing glass walls and ambient lighting serve to create an immersive atmosphere that encourages social connection and stress relief.
