Luxeh Hotel

Luxeh Hotel is a distinguished architectural renovation project located in the West Lake scenic area, seamlessly blending traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern hospitality design. The project, designed by Ruidong Weng and completed in 2019, represents a masterful integration of historical preservation and contemporary functionality. The hotel's design philosophy extends beyond the conventional wabi-sabi Japanese aesthetics, incorporating elements of everyday life while maintaining a deep respect for the original architectural integrity. The project's distinctive approach to spatial design includes the innovative use of traditional materials, particularly employing the Song dynasty-era baking technique for wood carbonization to preserve wooden components. The hotel's location, situated within three kilometers of ten Buddhist temples including the historic Lingyin Temple (built 326 AD), informed its spiritual and cultural context. The design successfully addresses complex environmental protection requirements, particularly in preserving centuries-old flagstone flooring while maintaining required greening rates. Interior spaces are thoughtfully configured to maximize functionality, with ingenious solutions for areas with unique architectural constraints, such as the creative utilization of two-meter-high spaces for storage and washing facilities. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional skill in balancing modern resort amenities with historical preservation, featuring modular ceramic implementations and careful consideration of material waste reduction. The design process involved extensive collaboration with traditional craftsmen, contributing to the preservation of historical building techniques while ensuring contemporary comfort standards.
