Africolor Festival Global Identity

Africolor Festival Global Identity is a comprehensive visual communication system designed by French designer Manuela Bonnet, created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of a significant African music festival. This innovative design approach employs sophisticated typographic manipulation and rhythmic visual elements to capture the essence of contemporary African musical expression. The identity system features a distinctive treatment of letterforms, where characters are strategically cut and repeated to create a vibrant, resonating pattern that mirrors the festival's dynamic nature. The design philosophy centers on clarity, impact, and joyful expression, utilizing a bold color palette primarily focused on contrasting red and green variations. This versatile identity system spans multiple formats and applications, including large-format posters (420 x 600 mm), subway displays (223 x 61.5 cm), comprehensive brochures (148 x 210 mm, 54 pages), and various digital media platforms. The design process involved initial hand-sketched concepts before transitioning to digital development using professional design software, demonstrating a methodical approach to creating a cohesive visual language. The project, executed between March and October 2019, successfully translates the festival's cultural significance and musical heritage into a contemporary visual narrative. The identity system's excellence in graphic design and visual communication was recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, acknowledging its innovative approach to cultural representation and its effective communication of the festival's artistic vision through modern design principles.
