A consumer's diary Book is an innovative conceptual art publication that explores the intersection of personal identity and consumer behavior through a curated collection of receipts, designed by Bulgarian artist Vyara Zlatilova. This thought-provoking work examines how modern identities are constructed through consumption patterns, presenting a methodical documentation of personal purchases as a mirror of individual character, social belonging, and cultural values. The A6-format perfect-bound book, measuring 150 x 105 x 10 millimeters, transforms everyday transactional records into a compelling narrative about contemporary society's relationship with material possessions. The project, which commenced in October 2011, deliberately incorporates the temporal aspect of receipt paper's gradual fading, adding an unintentional yet poignant commentary on the ephemeral nature of consumer culture. This experimental publication, recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category, draws intellectual inspiration from psychoanalytic advertising theories, Pop Art movement principles, and seminal works on consumer culture by cultural theorists. The interactive nature of the work invites readers to reconstruct the artist's identity solely through their purchasing history, while simultaneously prompting reflection on their own consumption patterns and material relationships. The book's conceptual framework is deeply rooted in contemporary discourse about identity formation, exploring how material objects serve as expressions of values, attitudes, and beliefs in modern society, while also examining the role of advertising and mass media in shaping these connections.
