Joy Hill Exhibition Center

Joy Hill Exhibition Center is a distinguished architectural and interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Lingnan culture with contemporary design aesthetics. Located in Dongguan, China, this 1,100-square-meter ceremonial community lounge was conceived to create meaningful emotional resonance through its thoughtful spatial design and cultural symbolism. The exhibition center's design draws inspiration from significant local architectural elements, particularly the undulating silhouette of the Wok Ear House, and incorporates traditional craftsmanship through its innovative use of bamboo installations. The space features a striking axial symmetry, with high colonnades creating a ceremonial atmosphere, while red stone elements pay homage to traditional building materials. The interior showcases a sophisticated interplay of light, color, and spatial sequences, with custom-designed furniture that merges traditional paper folding and cutting techniques with modern geometric interfaces and mortise-and-tenon structures. A central art installation, crafted from intricately woven bamboo strips, serves as the visual focal point, demonstrating the integration of Dongguan's intangible cultural heritage of straw knitting techniques. The project, completed in October 2021, received recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to contemporary interior design while preserving cultural elements. The space successfully balances functionality with artistic expression through its high-gloss lacquered bookshelves, carefully curated lighting, and adaptable communal areas, creating an environment that serves both as an exhibition venue and a community gathering space.
