Akuma Video is a groundbreaking fashion film that artfully blends elements of Japanese culture, haute couture, and supernatural storytelling. Created in 2014 and directed by Huba Barat, this innovative cinematic piece transcends traditional fashion film conventions by weaving a compelling narrative about a demon who transforms humans into drawings. The film features acclaimed albino model Shaun Ross in a transformative performance that explores themes of desire, possession, and human nature. Shot on location in Tokyo using BLACKMAGIC and Sony F5 cameras, the production masterfully captures the city's atmospheric underbelly, including authentic settings such as pachinko halls and capsule hotels. The film showcases designer Nina Athanasiou's Spring/Summer 2015 collection, which incorporates pure silk, leather, and cotton-satin materials adorned with original motif prints, complemented by bespoke pure silver accessories. The project's artistic vision was inspired by the distinctive artwork of Berlin-based artist Sven Ballenthin, whose drawings are featured in the film's conclusion. This sophisticated production, which garnered a Silver A' Design Award in the Movie, Video and Animation Design category, demonstrates exceptional technical execution in cinematography, sound design by Mourad Gerlach, and editing by Denis Marx. The film's unique aesthetic and narrative approach challenged conventional fashion film paradigms, offering a darker, more contemplative exploration of human desires while simultaneously presenting high-end fashion in an unconventional context.
