Lux Linea Ophthalmology Clinic

Lux Linea Ophthalmology Clinic is an innovative medical facility design located in Tokyo's vibrant Shibuya district, distinguished by its groundbreaking approach to healthcare interior architecture and recipient of the Silver A' Design Award in Interior Space Design. The clinic's design masterfully addresses two fundamental challenges: managing daylight reflections on glass surfaces and ensuring patient privacy, while simultaneously creating an immersive spatial experience that resonates with its urban context. Occupying 250 square meters on the ground floor of a mixed-use building, the space features a sophisticated system of illuminated transparent panels with linear light motifs, inspired by Shibuya's iconic light scenes, kaleidoscopic effects, and advanced medical technology. The interior layout follows a right trapezoid configuration, with the reception strategically positioned at the smaller corner, utilizing two glazed facades. The design employs innovative technology through transparent acrylic sheets with inkjet-printed patterns illuminated by LED tapes, creating an intricate play of light that is multiplied through strategically placed mirrors. This sophisticated lighting solution not only counters the challenging daylight reflections but also serves as a symbolic representation of the clinic's cutting-edge medical practices. The waiting area, thoughtfully arranged along the glass facade and separated by illuminated panels, provides both privacy and visual interest, while examination rooms are discretely positioned in the interior zones. Completed in April 2023, the project exemplifies how healthcare facility design can harmoniously blend functionality, technological advancement, and artistic vision while maintaining a strong connection to its urban environment.
