Little Pocket French fries box is an innovative packaging design solution that addresses health and environmental concerns associated with traditional fast-food containers. Created by a team of designers led by Dong Jiang at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Zhongshan Institute, this revolutionary design features a distinctive fold-out pocket specifically engineered for condiment dispensing. The box, measuring 125mm in length, 55mm in width, and 130mm in height, is crafted from food-grade paper materials and incorporates a unique front-facing compartment that serves as a dedicated space for ketchup and other condiments. This thoughtful design element eliminates the common practice of squeezing condiments directly onto the printed surface of traditional containers, thereby reducing exposure to potentially harmful substances such as organic pollutants and heavy metal oxides that may be present in conventional printed packaging materials. The innovative design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, represents a significant advancement in fast-food packaging by prioritizing user health and safety while maintaining functionality. The interaction flow is intuitively designed, allowing users to first hold the main container, pull out the integrated pocket, dispense condiments into the designated area, and enjoy their meal in a more hygienic manner. This design solution, developed between July 2016 and January 2017, demonstrates a profound understanding of user behavior and environmental responsibility, offering a more sustainable and health-conscious approach to fast-food packaging.
