I6-House Architecture Residential

I6-House Architecture Residential is an innovative architectural design project located in the evolving rural landscape of Isahaya city, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. This distinctive residential structure, completed in August 2017, exemplifies contemporary Japanese architectural principles through its sophisticated integration of form, function, and natural elements. The design, conceived by architect Masahiko Sato, features a striking composition of masses with slanted eaves and walls that reach toward the sky at varying angles, all finished in warm red cedar material that creates a sculptural presence within its peaceful rural setting. The house's design philosophy centers on maximizing social interaction and natural light, incorporating a thoughtfully planned interior that spans two floors. The ground floor accommodates private spaces including master and children's bedrooms, while the second floor houses the main living areas. A notable architectural feature is the ceiling of the second-floor living room, which follows the roof's angular trajectory toward a light court, creating an enhanced sense of spaciousness and connection to nature. The structure employs innovative design elements such as vertical wooden shade elements in the terrace balcony, strategically positioned to maintain privacy while optimizing natural daylight penetration. The integration of cantilevered stairs and indirect lighting beneath handrails contributes to the overall ambient atmosphere, while the extensive use of red cedar throughout creates a unified aesthetic between interior and exterior spaces. This architectural achievement, recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates excellence in addressing contemporary residential needs while creating an iconic presence that harmoniously blends with its surroundings.
