Wanda Jinan Basketball Ice Hockey Arena Basketball and Ice Hockey is an innovative multifunctional sports facility designed by architect Tengfei Chu, drawing inspiration from the natural springs of Jinan city and traditional Chinese jade aesthetics. The architectural marvel spans 55,000 square meters across four floors, featuring a distinctive curved facade with horizontal louvers that creates a dynamic visual response to the city's flowing springs while minimizing spatial pressure on its surroundings. The arena's sophisticated design accommodates 10,000 spectators and meets Olympic standards, with a dome extending 150 meters in length and 130 meters in width. Its versatile configuration allows for transformation between basketball and ice hockey venues, with a convertible field area of 44.4 by 77.2 meters that can also host various other sports including badminton, volleyball, and gymnastics. The structure employs a hybrid construction approach, combining reinforced concrete for interior elements with steel and large curtain walls for the exterior, while the facade primarily utilizes aluminum and glass materials. The design, which earned the Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, masterfully integrates modern architectural innovation with local cultural elements, featuring gradient skin panels with varying sizes and angles that create a sophisticated aesthetic appeal. The facility serves as both a premier sports venue and a community centerpiece, incorporating a civil plaza, training center, outdoor jogging track, extreme sports field, and outdoor theater, embodying a harmonious balance between vitality and tranquility in urban design.
