Artemis Pencil is an innovative writing instrument that revolutionizes traditional pencil ergonomics through its unique 'three-space' design concept, created by architect and designer Mohammad Reza Khakpour in collaboration with Evgenia Grammatikopoulou. This sculptural writing implement, completed between July 2018 and January 2019, represents a significant departure from conventional pencil design by focusing on accommodating fingers rather than requiring them to exert pressure. The design, inspired by architectural principles of space utilization and named after the Greek goddess of hunting, features an organic, aerodynamic form reminiscent of a spear, measuring 18 mm x 25 mm x 140 mm. Unlike traditional pencils that rely on a 'three-spot' finger placement generating opposing forces at specific points, the Artemis Pencil's innovative design creates dedicated spaces for finger placement, effectively eliminating the need for muscular tension during use. This handcrafted wooden implement, meticulously sculpted using various wood chisels and subjected to multiple sanding and polishing processes, demonstrates exceptional attention to ergonomic detail and craftsmanship. The design's emphasis on user comfort and reduced muscle strain represents a significant advancement in writing instrument design, earning it a Bronze A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category, recognizing its contribution to innovative stationery design and ergonomic functionality.
