AZIS`- Male Prostitution Photography Book, Exhibition is a compelling photographic documentary project that explores the complex social reality of young male sex workers with migration backgrounds in Dortmund, Germany. Created in 2010 by German photographer Rosa Maria Rühling, this profound visual narrative captures the stark contrasts between social cohesion and harsh working conditions among approximately 250 young men, with an average age of 21, working in the sex industry. The documentary focuses on subjects who primarily operate in various urban settings, including bars, saunas, cinemas, parks, parking areas, and roadsides, serving clients aged 40-80 years who pay between 5 and 30 Euros per service. The project, developed over nine months of intensive field research, provides an intimate glimpse into the lives of these individuals, many of whom lack formal education, German language skills, or adequate health awareness. Through careful composition and sensitive documentation, the work illuminates the socioeconomic motivations driving these young men, many of whom have immigrated to support their families financially.
