Afterlife Restaurant is an innovative thematic dining establishment located in downtown Dubai, conceptualized to explore the metaphysical realm of afterlife through architectural and interior design elements. The establishment, designed by Devesh Bhatia and Pratyay Chakrabarti, encompasses 500 square meters of covered space and 150 square meters of open balcony, offering panoramic views of Dubai's musical fountain and Burj Khalifa. The restaurant's design philosophy centers on creating an immersive experience that encourages contemplation of life's transformative journey, featuring carefully curated elements such as a mountain-walled entrance gallery adorned with burnt candles and suspended crystals. The interior showcases distinctive design elements including fibre reinforced plastic modeling for stone wall effects, rustic Indian sandstone flooring laid in an intentionally random pattern, and an island bar sculpted to appear hewn from natural rock. A significant focal point is the serpentine crystal light fixture spanning 30 meters above the bar area, symbolizing life's continuous evolution. The space incorporates thought-provoking portrait galleries depicting various human emotions and experiences, while the entrance foyer features driftwood elements and an oversized log chair, symbolically marking the transition into the afterlife concept. This innovative hospitality design was recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design category in 2020, acknowledging its creative approach to thematic restaurant design and its successful integration of conceptual elements with functional dining space.
