Alan Kitching

Alan Kitching is a renowned British graphic designer, typographer, and letterpress printmaker, celebrated for his innovative and expressive use of wood and metal type. Born in 1940 in Darlington, County Durham, England, Kitching's passion for typography and printing began during his apprenticeship as a compositor with a local printing firm. He later honed his skills at the Watford College of Technology and the Royal College of Art in London. Kitching's career spans over five decades, during which he has made significant contributions to the fields of graphic design and typography. His distinctive style, characterized by bold, experimental compositions and a masterful use of color and texture, has earned him international recognition. Kitching's work often combines traditional letterpress techniques with modern design sensibilities, creating visually striking and thought-provoking pieces. He has collaborated with numerous clients, including publishers, cultural institutions, and charitable organizations, producing a wide range of commissioned works such as posters, book covers, and limited-edition prints.
