Anandajit Ray

Anandajit Ray is an acclaimed Indian sculptor known for his unique blend of traditional and contemporary styles. Born in 1965 in Kolkata, India, Ray developed a passion for art at a young age, influenced by his father, the renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray. He studied sculpture at the Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata and later honed his skills at the Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan. Ray's sculptures often feature intricate, fluid forms that seem to defy the rigidity of the materials he works with, such as metal and stone. His works are deeply rooted in Indian cultural and spiritual traditions, yet they also reflect a modern sensibility and a keen understanding of international art movements. Ray's sculptures have been exhibited widely in India and abroad, including at prestigious venues such as the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to Indian art, including the Lalit Kala Akademi Award and the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors. Beyond his artistic practice, Ray is also known for his commitment to education and his efforts to promote the appreciation of sculpture among younger generations.
