Scullery

Scullery is a term that refers to a small kitchen or room, typically located adjacent to the main kitchen in a large household, restaurant, or other food service establishment. Historically, the scullery was a separate room used for washing dishes and other kitchen utensils, as well as for various food preparation tasks that were considered too menial or dirty to be carried out in the main kitchen. In the context of domestic service, the scullery maid was a female servant who was responsible for washing dishes and carrying out other cleaning tasks in the scullery. The scullery often featured a large sink, known as a scullery sink, which was used for washing dishes and cleaning kitchen equipment. In modern times, the term scullery is sometimes used to refer to a utility room or a small secondary kitchen that is used for food preparation, storage, or laundry.
