Michael Bierut is an acclaimed American graphic designer, design critic, and educator who has made significant contributions to the field of visual communication. Born in 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio, Bierut's interest in design was sparked at a young age through his fascination with record covers and his discovery of the work of legendary designers like Milton Glaser and Massimo Vignelli. He went on to study graphic design at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, graduating summa cum laude in 1980. Bierut's career took off when he joined the prestigious design firm Vignelli Associates in New York City, where he worked for ten years before becoming a partner in the New York office of Pentagram, a multi-disciplinary design consultancy, in 1990.
