Richard Tuttle is an American artist and sculptor who is known for his minimalist abstract sculptures, drawings, collages and artist books. Born in 1945 in Rahway, New Jersey, Tuttle studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute between 1963 and 1965. Initially, Tuttle created abstract sculpture pieces that were made up of found materials and objects such as cardboard, fabric, and wood. He became the youngest artist to be included in the Artforum magazine's infamous Pictures Generation in 1975. He has since produced an extensive body of work, including installations, paintings, prints, drawings and reliefs. Specific works by Tuttle include the installation piece Mud Bat which was displayed at the MoMA in 2001, and his sculptural piece Boxed Water from 1972.
