Jonathan Borofsky is an American artist born in 1942. His work is known for its focus on themes of human existence, dreams, fantasy and identity. He has created a wide range of work including large-scale public art works, bodies of prints, paintings, and sculpture. Borofsky's public art works often combine placed figures with text, which he believes to be repositories for collective emotions and shared experience. Notable works by Borofsky include the figures of Molecule Man, placed on the Oberbaumbrücke bridge in Berlin in 1991; The Ballerina Clown, a series of seven sculptures placed in the harbor of Osaka, Japan in 2003; and the Walking to the Sky, a sculpture of nine figures placed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2005.
