John Akomfrah is a Ghanaian-born British filmmaker, artist, and writer who has made a significant contribution to the world of art and cinema. He is a founding member of the influential Black Audio Film Collective, which emerged in the 1980s and played a key role in the development of black British cinema. Akomfrah's work is characterized by its exploration of themes such as memory, identity, migration, and colonialism, and his use of archival footage, still images, and soundscapes to create multi-layered and immersive installations. Akomfrah's work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Venice Biennale. John Akomfrah

John Akomfrah is a renowned Ghanaian multimedia artist and filmmaker. He is widely recognized for his moving-image installations which explore themes of memory, identity, post-colonialism, and intersectional histories. Notable works of Akomfrah’s include his multi-screen installation ‘The Unfinished Conversation’ (2012) at the Tate Modern, ‘Seven Songs for Malcolm X’ (1993), and the film ‘The Nine Muses’ (2010). He was awarded the Black British Award for his outstanding contribution to British Black Art in 2014 and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2015 for services to the film and art industry.
