Rory Mcewen

Rory Mcewen was a renowned British artist, particularly known for his creative use of colour, by combining traditional and modern techniques. Born in Glasgow in 1925, Mcewen attended the Glasgow School of Art, where he graduated in 1948. During the 1950s and 1960s Mcewen developed a strong reputation as an innovative and distinctive landscape painter. His best-known works include The Hunter's House (1955), Moorland Pool (1956) and The Quarry (1958). Mcewen also experimented with printmaking throughout the 1960s, including wood engravings and etchings. His woodcuts were exhibited in 1964 at the Festival of Britain. Mcewen was also a highly accomplished teacher and mentor, notably conducting a series of outdoor painting classes at Scotland's East Kilbride Art Gallery.
