Radio Corporation of America (RCA) was an American electronics company that played a significant role in the development of radio and television broadcasting. Founded in 1919, RCA was formed as a subsidiary of General Electric (GE) and became an independent company in 1932. RCA was a pioneer in the development of electronic technology and was responsible for many important innovations, including the first electronic television system and the first color television system. RCA was also a major player in the music industry, owning the RCA Victor record label and producing many popular recordings. The company was a major force in the development of rock and roll music, with artists such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly recording for RCA. In addition to its music and broadcasting operations, RCA was also involved in the development of military technology, including radar and sonar systems. Despite its many successes, RCA faced financial difficulties in the 1980s and was eventually acquired by General Electric in 1986. Today, the RCA brand is owned by Technicolor SA, a French multinational corporation.
