Madelon Hooykaas

Madelon Hooykaas was a Dutch artist and illustrator who was born in Rotterdam in 1925 and passed away in 2008. She was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and was known for her vibrant and distinctive painting style. Her works often featured vivid colors, geometric shapes, and layered motifs, and her oeuvre included oil paintings, collages, illustrations, sketches, and tapestries. Hooykaas was a versatile artist who experimented with different styles and mediums throughout her career, but her work was always characterized by a strong sense of color and composition. In addition to her artistic achievements, Hooykaas was also known for her advocacy of environmentalism. Madelon Hooykaas is a renowned Dutch artist and illustrator. Born in 1925 in Rotterdam,Madeline completed her BA in Art and Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1951. She has become renowned for her distinctive and vibrant painting style - her works often featuring vivid colors, geometric shapes and layered motifs. Her oeuvre includes oil paintings, collages, illustrations, sketches and tapestries. Notable works include the oil painting “Terra”(1955), the abstract collage “Waves” (1959) and the surrealist painting “The Meadow” (1954). Madelon Hooykaas was also known for her advocacy of environmentalism, particularly in her book “The World of Nature” (1968). Her works have been featured in many exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States, including a retrospective at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam in 1995.
