Distillation columns are vertical vessels used in the process of separating a mixture of two or more liquids with different boiling points. This process is known as distillation and is widely used in the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries. The basic principle behind distillation is to heat the mixture until it reaches its boiling point, and then separate the vaporized components by condensing them back into their liquid form. The distillation column plays a critical role in this process by providing a large surface area for the vapor and liquid to come into contact and allowing for multiple stages of separation.
