Antonio Fernandez Reboiro

Antonio Fernandez Reboiro is one of the most renowned Cuban artists of the twentieth century. Born in La Habana, Cuba in 1893, he began exhibiting his work from an early age, with his first solo exhibition taking place in 1912. He is considered a master of Cuban Modernism, with his works blending a variety of pre-Columbian, African, and European influences. Some of his most famous works include La Mulata, an oil on canvas painting from 1931; Redondel, a mixed media mural from 1953; and La Familia Jubilosa, a ceramic sculpture created in 1964. Reboiro is considered to be one of the most influential Cuban artists of the twentieth century, being honored with the Gold Medal of the Academy of Santiago in 1981.
