Adja Yunkers was an American artist who pioneered a new abstract expressionist style of modernism in the mid-20th century. He was born in Latvia and traveled extensively, settling eventually in the United States. Yunkers produced an extensive body of works during his lifetime, including paintings, woodcuts, lithographs, and sculpture. He is best known for his abstract paintings in which he explored light and color. His work was led by abstract cubism and surrealism, which exhibited elements of Russian avant-garde art. His most famous works include The Dream, Life Line, and Clown.
