Richard Van Buren

Richard Van Buren was an American artist who rose to prominence in the 1960s and 1970s as a key figure in the Minimalist movement. His work is characterized by its use of industrial materials, such as fiberglass and resin, and its emphasis on geometric forms and hard-edged lines. Van Buren's work has been exhibited widely in the United States and Europe, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He was also a recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. In addition to his art practice, Van Buren was a passionate teacher and mentor to many young artists. He taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York and the University of California, Santa Cruz, among other institutions. His legacy continues to influence generations of artists who are drawn to his innovative use of materials and his commitment to exploring the boundaries of perception and space.
