Howard Scott Warshaw

Howard Scott Warshaw is an accomplished video game designer, programmer, and producer who is widely recognized for his contributions to the early days of the video game industry. Born in 1957, Warshaw grew up in the United States and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in computer science. After graduation, he was hired by Atari, Inc., one of the leading video game companies of the time, and quickly rose to prominence as a talented game designer. Warshaw's most famous creation is undoubtedly the video game E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which he developed for Atari in 1982. The game was based on the popular movie of the same name and was highly anticipated by gamers and critics alike. However, due to a number of factors, including a rushed development schedule and a lack of clear direction from Atari management, the game was a commercial failure and is widely considered to be one of the worst video games ever made. Despite the disappointment of E.T., Warshaw continued to work in the video game industry for several years, producing a number of successful titles for Atari, including Yars' Revenge and Raiders of the Lost Ark. In the mid-1980s, he left Atari to start his own company, which focused on developing educational software for children. Today, Warshaw is recognized as a pioneer in the video game industry and is highly respected for his contributions to the early days of the medium. He has been interviewed extensively about his experiences at Atari and his work on E.T., and has spoken at numerous conferences and events about the history and future of video games.
