Anne Fontaine is a critical figure in Luxembourgish art, who has had an immense impact on the art world. Born in Esch-sur-Alzette in 1962, Fontaine attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the mid-1980s, where she received her Diplôme National Supérieur d'Expression Plastique. Fontaine's works draw upon a variety of artistic traditions and mediums, ranging from oil, charcoal and pastel paintings, to sculptures, video and photography. Her most important works include, 'Reclining Figure I', 'Portrait of a Romantic Couple' and 'Towards the Sun'. Fontaine's pieces are often characterized by a unique combination of abstract and figurative elements, which evoke a sense of surrealism. Her works have been exhibited around the world, including the Luxembourg National Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the MoMa in New York, and the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
