Simone Forti is an American artist and choreographer who has made significant contributions to the field of postmodern dance. She is widely recognized for her pioneering work in the development of the dance constructions approach to movement, which emphasizes improvisation and experimentation. Forti's work is characterized by a deep engagement with the body, and she has been praised for her ability to explore the expressive potential of movement. Forti was born in Florence, Italy in 1935 and grew up in Los Angeles, California. She began her career as a dancer in the 1950s, studying with Anna Halprin and performing with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. In the 1960s, she became associated with the Judson Dance Theater, a group of artists who were experimenting with new forms of dance and performance.
