Born in 1901 in Italy, Geronimi immigrated to the United States with his family at a young age. He began his career in animation in the 1920s, working for various studios before joining Walt Disney Productions in 1931. During his time at Disney, Geronimi worked on some of the studio's most iconic films, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Cinderella. In addition to his work at Disney, Geronimi was also a founding member of the animation studio UPA (United Productions of America) in 1949. UPA was known for its innovative and stylized approach to animation, and Geronimi played a key role in shaping the studio's aesthetic. Clyde Geronimi was an Italian artist famed for his bold, expressionist style of painting. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, graduating in 1878 with a diploma in painting and sculpture. Geronimi gained recognition for his landscape paintings, as well as his portraits and still lifes. One of his most famous works is The Departure of the Fisherman (1887), which is a dramatic depiction of a fishing boat setting out for a day’s work on the sea. Geronimi experimented with color palettes, often including deep browns and greens, and dynamic brushstrokes that further emphasize the energy of the painting. Another notable work is The Strada di San Giusto (1920), a painting of churches, castles and a small village intersecting along a winding road.
