Alfonso Bialetti

Alfonso Bialetti was not an Italian artist, as previously defined, but rather an Italian engineer and businessman who is best known for his invention of the Moka Express stovetop espresso maker. Born in 1888 in the city of Omegna, Italy, Bialetti was the son of a metalworker and grew up with a passion for mechanics. After completing his education, he worked as a metalworker and eventually started his own workshop, where he began designing and manufacturing aluminum products. In 1933, Bialetti had the idea to create a stovetop espresso maker that could produce a rich, flavorful cup of coffee at home. He designed the Moka Express, which quickly became a popular household item in Italy and around the world. The Moka Express was easy to use, affordable, and produced a high-quality cup of coffee that rivaled the espresso served in cafes. Bialetti's success with the Moka Express led him to expand his business and create other innovative products. He continued to design and manufacture aluminum products, including cookware and kitchen gadgets, and his company became one of the largest producers of aluminum goods in Italy. Despite his success, Bialetti remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He was known for his attention to detail and his commitment to quality, and he continued to work in his workshop until his death in 1970. Today, the Bialetti company is still family-owned and operated, and the Moka Express remains a beloved and iconic product around the world.
