Arnold Gross

Arnold Gross was a Hungarian abstract painter who was born in Budapest in 1889. He was a member of the Hungarian avant-garde movement and played a significant role in the development of modern art in Hungary. Gross was a versatile artist who experimented with a variety of styles throughout his career, ranging from Cubism to Surrealism. He was also a prolific writer and art critic, and his writings were highly influential in shaping the discourse around modern art in Hungary. Gross's art is characterized by a strong sense of composition and a keen sensitivity to color and form. He was deeply interested in the relationship between abstraction and representation, and his work often contains subtle references to the natural world. His paintings are marked by a sense of ambiguity and mystery, inviting the viewer to engage with the work on a deeper level. Despite his significant contributions to the development of modern art in Hungary, Gross's work has been largely overlooked outside of his home country. However, recent exhibitions and publications have begun to shed light on his important legacy, and his work is now being recognized as a vital part of the broader history of modern art in Europe.
