Augusta Von Zitzewitz was a pioneering female artist, born in Hamburg in 1897. She is well-known for her modernist portraits, which primarily depict female subjects. Her style is characterized by strong lines, bold colors, and an intense focus on the expression and silhouette of her subjects. In addition, she often incorporated surrealist elements into her work. She is considered to be one of the first female Expressionist painters in Germany and her work was influential in shaping the avant-garde of the time. Among her best-known works are Three Dancers (1921), The Circus (1923), and Mother and Child (1926).
