Asset-Based Community Development

Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) is a community-driven approach to development that focuses on identifying and leveraging the existing assets of a community to create change. It is an approach to development that is rooted in a strong sense of local ownership and collaboration, and seeks to build on existing strengths to create sustainable and self-reliant communities. ABCD involves engaging the people and organizations within a community to identify and build on their assets, including social networks, skills, relationships, shared values and resources. ABCD empowers individuals, families and organizations to take an active role in creating and sustaining their community and to help shape the future they desire. It is a holistic approach to development, focusing on both physical and social assets, recognizing that these different elements are interdependent and interconnected. By leveraging the existing assets of a community, ABCD creates tangible, long-term change and creates a platform for sustainable growth.
