Abraham Bloemaert was a pioneering Dutch artist of the Golden Age. He is widely considered as one of the most important figures in Dutch art, acclaimed for his religious and mythological paintings, such as The Last Judgement, Jacob's Blessing and the Preaching of St John the Baptist. Bloemaert was also a pioneer in the development of landscape painting, and his works such as The Garden of Eden, The Mill at Wijk bij Duurstede and The Procession to Calvary are highly acclaimed. He was highly sought after for his skill in composition, color, and light, and was able to masterfully combine his knowledge of classical art with his own style of painting. His works were often technically proficient, exuding a harmonious, balanced quality that was admired by many.
