Roger Brown

Roger Brown (1941-1997) was an American artist best known for his wryly satirical figurative paintings that addressed American culture and politics. He was born in Alabama and studied fine art at the Art Institute of Chicago. While there he joined the group which later became known as the Chicago Imagists, along with Ed Paschke, Christina Ramberg and others. He also attended the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste in Berlin and had a studio in Amsterdam in the 1970s. Brown was heavily influenced by Chicago's rich theater and music culture. He was a frequent visitor to the Chicago Institute of Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago. His works include A Parrot for the President (1973), Greatest Hits (1979) and the mural in the lobby of the Art Institute of Chicago, Meet Me At The Crossroads (1985).
