Zi Garden/Tangquan Tea Club Sales & Exhibition

Zi Garden/Tangquan Tea Club Sales & Exhibition is an exemplary architectural and interior design project that masterfully integrates traditional Chinese cultural elements with contemporary spatial design principles. Located in a scenic setting near mountains and a river, this three-story establishment with an underground basement represents a sophisticated interpretation of Chinese tea culture and Zen philosophy. The project, completed in 2014 and recognized with the Platinum A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, showcases an innovative transformation of a residential villa into a multifunctional commercial space. The design features distinct areas including reception halls, illuminated spaces, a library, and tea exhibition rooms, each carefully crafted to create a harmonious blend of business and leisure environments. The interior design employs traditional materials such as rough green slate, natural wood floors, and custom wooden grids, complemented by modern elements like floor-to-ceiling rotating glass windows that maximize natural light and scenic views. Notable design elements include three separate tea rooms oriented to capture lake views, creating an effect reminiscent of traditional Chinese ink paintings. The second floor houses an exhibition hall centered on Humanistic Zen principles, while the third floor features a thoughtfully designed library emphasizing functionality and contemplative atmosphere. The project's material palette includes ink stone, various types of granite, marble, antique copper, and traditional wood finishes, all carefully selected to create a sophisticated interplay of textures and surfaces. The design pays homage to the cultural legacy of Su Dongpo, incorporating elements of traditional Chinese aesthetics such as bamboo motifs, calligraphy, and carefully curated art reproductions, while maintaining a delicate balance between commercial functionality and spiritual tranquility.
