Yantai Experience Sales Centre and Exhibition is an innovative architectural masterpiece located in Yantai, a coastal city in China, that reimagines the traditional concept of sales centers through its distinctive crystalline design and community-focused approach. This 1,800-square-meter structure, distinguished by its series of fluted drums wrapped in a glass skirt, represents a significant departure from conventional exhibition center design principles by placing a central public gathering space at its heart rather than following the typical linear circulation pattern. The building's exterior features silver aluminum panels that reflect the surrounding landscape and sky, while six-meter-tall frameless glass panels create a transparent connection between interior and exterior spaces. The design philosophy centers on creating a more human-centric and welcoming environment, with a sunken central lounge area that sits 1.2 meters below the main level, surrounded by a column-lined circular gallery that facilitates visual connectivity between different functional spaces. The structure's snow-crystal-inspired layout creates a harmonious balance of positive and negative spaces, with peripheral volumes housing distinct environments that can adapt to various purposes. Originally conceived as a temporary structure, the project's innovative approach to community engagement and social inclusion led local authorities to designate it as a permanent cultural and art center for the emerging neighborhood. The project, which was completed in March 2021 after beginning in July 2019, has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to architectural innovation and community development.
