Yangguang City No.9 Residential House is an innovative residential interior design project that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of Chinese mythology and contemporary spatial design principles. Located in Xi'an, China, this 501-square-meter residence showcases a sophisticated interpretation of the mythological FengHuang (Phoenix) concept through its architectural elements and interior features. The design, created by Saiwen Liu, masterfully addresses the challenge of optimizing a relatively compact 93-square-meter single-floor area through the implementation of flowing curves and strategic lighting solutions. The project's distinctive aesthetic is characterized by orderly arranged wall shapes that evoke the graceful movement of phoenix tail feathers, while embedded light strips create a dynamic, dance-like illumination effect throughout the space. Notable for its sustainable approach, the design incorporates natural-shell terrazzo and traditional red bricks, materials chosen not only for their cost-effectiveness but also for their functional benefits in managing indoor humidity levels in Xi'an's dry climate. The project, completed in 2023, demonstrates exceptional innovation in sustainable design through its use of recycled shell materials, contributing to the reduction of marine pollution while creating aesthetic value. The interior's sophisticated spatial organization prioritizes efficient traffic flow and practical functionality, while unique decorative elements, including custom-made side tables crafted from saw blades and oil-painted off-cut wood, add distinctive character to the space. This exceptional design achievement has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its outstanding contribution to contemporary residential interior design.
