Xixia King Label is an innovative wine packaging design that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of ancient cultural heritage with contemporary design aesthetics. Created by designer ZhanQiang Yang, this distinctive label draws inspiration from the rich historical context of the Xixia period (1038-1227) and the geographical significance of the Ningxia Helan Mountain region. The design's most striking feature is its incorporation of traditional rock paintings depicting hunting scenes, which authentically capture the social dynamics and spiritual essence of the Xixia period. The label employs an irregular shape crafted from natural cork material, representing a significant departure from conventional label materials while offering superior texture and stability. This innovative approach to material selection enhances the product's primitive yet sophisticated appeal. The design comprises two interconnected labels that, when combined, form a comprehensive map of the ancient Xixia territory, creating an engaging narrative through its visual elements. The implementation of bronzing techniques and specialized gold paper printing adds a layer of luxury and authenticity to the design, while the carefully considered dimensions (70mm x 145mm; 210mm x 297mm) ensure optimal visual impact on the 750ml wine bottles. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2020, successfully modernizes ancient artistic elements while maintaining their cultural integrity, demonstrating exceptional creativity in packaging design that bridges historical significance with contemporary market demands.
