Wanglaoji Black Herbal Tea Beverage is an innovative packaging design project that revolutionizes the traditional herbal tea market through its contemporary aesthetic approach and thoughtful consumer-centric design. Created by designer Tiger Pan in collaboration with illustrator Enisaurus and assistant Longfei Xiao, this distinctive beverage packaging features a hexagonal prism configuration housing 12 bottles, incorporating a robust paper handle system that facilitates weight distribution and encourages social consumption patterns. The design's most striking feature is its creative interpretation of modern youth culture, depicted through vector illustrations that transform everyday objects into playful, humanized elements within a carefully composed visual narrative. The aluminum can design, executed through spot-color printing technology, measures 310ml in capacity with dimensions of 57mm in diameter and 148mm in height, presenting technical challenges that were overcome through innovative printing solutions. The project, completed between June and September 2017, successfully bridges traditional Chinese herbal tea culture with contemporary youth aesthetics, earning recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. The design's significance lies in its ability to reposition a traditional health beverage for a younger demographic while maintaining cultural relevance, demonstrated through its sophisticated integration of modern lifestyle elements and traditional Chinese cultural references, including a clever reinterpretation of the three-character brand name that resonates with contemporary consumer values.
