Samopev Packaging is an innovative packaging design series developed for dry construction materials, exemplifying a sophisticated approach to industrial packaging through strategic color-coding and enhanced visual presentation. Created by Croatian designer Maja Matas, this packaging solution represents a significant advancement in construction material packaging design, challenging traditional industrial packaging conventions through its contemporary aesthetic approach and functional improvements. The design's primary innovation lies in its color-coding system, which facilitates better product recognition and optimizes display presentation in retail environments. Each package features dynamic product imagery that extends beyond the front panel onto the sides, creating an enhanced visual presence and perceived scale. The design successfully addresses practical considerations through the implementation of EAN codes on three sides for improved handling efficiency, while the structural design incorporates specialized features such as air holes and double poly layer construction, essential for dry construction materials. This packaging series, produced in quantities of 75,000 units for initial distribution across 20 shopping centers, demonstrates exceptional attention to both aesthetic and functional requirements. The design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category, acknowledging its contribution to advancing packaging design standards in the construction materials sector. The project's success lies in its ability to transform typically utilitarian construction material packaging into a visually appealing, functionally superior solution that enhances both the retail experience and brand recognition while maintaining necessary technical specifications for material preservation and handling.
