Salam Mosque is a contemporary religious architectural masterpiece located in Al-Medina, Saudi Arabia, that redefines traditional mosque design principles while maintaining cultural authenticity. Completed in 2017, this innovative district mosque seamlessly integrates modern architectural elements with traditional Islamic design features, spanning a total area of 1,313.9 square meters and accommodating 400 to 650 worshippers. The structure stands 13.1 meters tall without its minaret and employs a sophisticated combination of grey regional marble facades and white Riyadh stone for its exterior walls. The mosque's architectural concept challenges conventional monumental mosque design by introducing a humanistic scale through multiple masses while preserving the essential dignified character of Islamic religious architecture. The interior design draws inspiration from the historical Hypostyle style, featuring exposed white concrete finishes with dolomite rock aggregates and wooden wall panels that create a serene prayer environment. The building's structural system utilizes reinforced concrete planar covered slabs with an innovative series of interconnected beam ribs that form distinctive ceiling patterns. The mosque's circulation design facilitates meaningful interaction between users and the building through carefully planned entry points and movement flows, including separate access routes for worshippers and religious leaders. This architectural achievement, recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in religious architecture through its thoughtful integration of contemporary design solutions with traditional Islamic architectural elements, setting a new standard for district mosque design in Saudi Arabia.
