Ralph Goings

Ralph Goings was an American artist who was known for his photorealist paintings of everyday objects and scenes. He was born in California in 1928 and studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts and the University of California, Berkeley. Goings began his career as a commercial artist, working as an illustrator and graphic designer. However, he eventually turned his attention to fine art and became one of the leading figures of the photorealist movement in the 1960s and 1970s. Goings' paintings are characterized by their meticulous attention to detail and their ability to capture the essence of everyday life. He was particularly interested in depicting the urban landscape, and many of his works feature diners, gas stations, and other roadside attractions. Goings' paintings often have a nostalgic quality, evoking a bygone era of American life. Despite his success as a photorealist painter, Goings was always somewhat of an outsider in the art world. He was not interested in the conceptual art that was popular at the time, and instead focused on creating technically proficient paintings that celebrated the beauty of the everyday. Goings continued to paint until his death in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of work that continues to inspire and captivate viewers.
