Pedro Coronel was a prominent Mexican artist who made significant contributions to the world of abstract art during the 20th century. Pedro Coronel (1923-1985) was a Mexican painter and sculptor. He belonged to the generation of Mexican painters who rejected the traditional Mexican art and created a more expressive style, known as “The School of the Fifties”. He is considered one of the most important Mexican artists of the twentieth century and a major figure in abstract art in his country. Coronel's work has been exhibited and discussed in many important galleries and museums around the world. His better known works include The Flight of Icarus (1960), The Crown of the Fourteen Points (1968), and The Plumed Serpent (1974). Coronel also wrote and illustrated poetry compilations, such as The Book of the Flame (1962).
