Maurice Barraud

Maurice Barraud was a Swiss painter who lived from 1889 to 1954. He was born in Geneva and studied at the University of Geneva before moving to Paris to attend the École des Beaux-Arts. Barraud was known for his atmospheric and expressionistic landscapes and cityscapes, which often featured bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes. He was also an avid traveler and completed several decorative projects throughout Europe. Barraud's work was heavily influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, particularly the work of Vincent van Gogh. He was also interested in the Symbolist movement and incorporated elements of it into his paintings. Barraud's paintings often depicted everyday scenes, such as street corners and cafes, but he imbued them with a sense of mystery and atmosphere. In addition to his paintings, Barraud was also a skilled draftsman and made a series of sketches depicting his travels in the Tyrol and Switzerland. These sketches are now held in the Museum of Art and History of Geneva. Barraud was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français and the Royal Academy of Belgium. Maurice Barraud (1883–1941) was a Swiss painter from Geneva. From an early age, he was passionate about art and studied at the University of Geneva. In 1910, he moved to Paris to study at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he was soon noticed for his exceptional skills in painting. He became known for his atmospheric, expressionistic landscapes and cityscapes. His most renowned works include La Place des Terreaux (1922), Le Quai des Arts (1924), Sur l'Ile des Paquis (1930), and Le Jardin Anglais (1941). He also made a series of sketches depicting his travels in the Tyrol and Switzerland, which are now held in the Museum of Art and History of Geneva. An avid traveller, Barraud often travelled and completed several decorative projects throughout Europe. He was also a member of the Salon des Artistes Français and the Royal Academy of Belgium.
